Exquiste Excursion 3-day Multimedia Workshop
On June 1 - June 3, 2016, Teddy Draper, Jr. held a special 3 day Multimedia Workshop in and around the spectacular Canyon DeChelly, his homeland.
The workshops are open to anyone interested in the Southwestern landscape, Native American culture and/or art. Our program invites various levels of artistic experience. This is an excellent opportunity for the artist to acquire firsthand experience in the various aspects of "The Draper Pastel Technique" - it's basic, utilization of light, shadow and color to create paintings of exquisite merit. This program also provides the advanced artist a chance to fine tune their skills and technique in an atmosphere conducive to increased creativity and visual awareness.
The workshop also includes learning the basics of Navajo Jewelry making and the chance to hear Teddy's wonderful stories of life (past and present) on the Rez.
If you are interested in attending Teddy's next workshop, please download, fill out and mail the Exquisite Excursions Application Form (PDF). When we receive it, we will contact you.
The opportunity for an artist is nothing short of a ‘revelation’ and is graciously offered by renowned painter and teacher, Teddy Draper, Jr. in his ‘Exquisite Excursions’ artists workshops.

Our Navajo guides and staff will provide personal accounts about their many colorful experiences and history of this area that have been passed down for generations.
Our chief guide, Teddy Draper, Sr., was born in Canyon Del Muerto and was a Navajo Code Talker with the U.S. Marines during World War II. Mr. Draper's comments and insights are priceless, and his knowledge of this land is second to none.
Workshop days will begin early and end late. We have carefully selected locations that offer a wide variety of subjects within a short distance from our headquarters in Chinle. More time is spent on technique and less on the road. Our objective is to maximize the field time to insure that each participant can experience the landscape and the isolated abstractions to produce images of their preference.
These workshops also provide a unique opportunity to attain a higher degree of understanding of Native Americans, enriching the lives of the participants, while inspiring new reaches in creativity that go far beyond the actual measure of the workshop.
3 and 5 day Workshops offered. If you are interested in attending, please download, fill out and mail the Exquisite Excursions Application Form (PDF). When we receive it, we will contact you.
The workshop fee includes guide service, transportation during the workshop in "well conditioned" 4WD vehicles, permits, lecture fees, with daily lunch and refreshments served in the field. It does not include lodging, breakfast and evening meals, airline fares or transportation to and from Chinle. Participants will be the guests of the Teddy Draper Family for a day on their land in Canyon Del Muerto (if track conditions permit.)
